“Bournemouth EV charger installs are the most varied I do anywhere in Dorset. Half my BCP customers have no driveway — that's a Boscombe Victorian terrace, a Charminster Edwardian, a Westbourne flat conversion, a Springbourne side-passage. The pattern that works depends on the street and the property. We’ve done side-passage cable management down BH9 1930s semi runs, rear-lane wall-mounts on BH7 Edwardian terraces, BCP pavement gulleys on the quieter residential streets where BCP grants permits, and coastal saltwater-rated installs in BH4 and BH6. The other thing that’s different about Bournemouth: probably 70% of my BH installs need a consumer unit upgrade first because the existing board has no spare ways or the wrong RCD type. Bundling those saves the customer £150–£250 vs sequential jobs.”

How a Lilliput Bournemouth EV Charger Install Works
Three steps from first call to commissioned charger. No call centre, no subcontractors — you deal with Tim or Oscar throughout.
1. Free survey & charger recommendation
We come to your Bournemouth property, assess your electrical supply (single-phase or three-phase), check consumer unit capacity and RCD type, walk the proposed cable route (driveway, side passage, rear lane, pavement gulley), and recommend the right charger for your driving pattern and tariff. Fixed-price written quote within 24 hours. OZEV grant eligibility confirmed at this stage.
2. Installation day
Typical 3–4 hours on driveway properties, 5–6 hours on terraced with cable management, full day on pavement gulley or shared-supply jobs. We install the dedicated 32 A circuit, Type-A or Type-F RCD, mount the charger, run cabling neatly (heritage-finish brushed brass or painted steel where Edwardian / Victorian property), and configure the smart-tariff app on your phone.
3. Commissioning & paperwork
Charger commissioned, smart tariff configured (Octopus Intelligent / EDF GoElectric / etc.), demonstration of operation, NICEIC Electrical Installation Certificate issued, OZEV grant paperwork submitted on your behalf (for eligible flats and rentals), Building Control notification automated. Six-year workmanship guarantee.
Terraced Houses — How We Solve The No-Driveway Problem
Roughly half of all Bournemouth EV charger enquiries come from terraced properties without driveways — common across Boscombe (BH5), Southbourne (BH6), Springbourne (BH7), Charminster (BH8), and parts of Winton (BH9). Three solutions cover 95% of these properties:
Solution 1: Side-passage cable management (most common BH9 / BH10)
- Charger wall-mounted on the front of the house, cable management down the side passage, terminating at designated parking on the road or on a hardstanding.
- Works on 1930s semis with side passages (the dominant Winton / Moordown housing pattern).
- +£150 over driveway standard. Single day install.
Solution 2: Rear-lane wall-mount (most common BH7 / BH8)
- Charger mounted on the rear garden wall, cable through the wall to the internal consumer unit, charger faces the rear lane parking.
- Works on Edwardian terraces in Charminster and Springbourne where rear-lane parking is the standard pattern.
- +£150 over driveway standard. Single day install.
Solution 3: BCP-permitted pavement gulley
- Charger mounted on the front wall, cable runs through a recessed pavement gulley to on-street parking.
- Requires BCP Council pavement permit (typically £80 application fee, paid through us). BCP grants permits on quieter residential streets — not eligible on busy through-roads.
- +£200 over driveway standard. Half to full day install.
Our terraced-house EV charger guide covers each pattern with photos, BCP-eligible street examples, and pavement permit application detail. We assess each property individually on the survey.

What Bournemouth & BCP Customers Say
"Excellent and affordable EV charger install. Friendly and efficient — highly recommended."
Google Review
"I have used Lilliput electrical for about 11 years. Tim wired my kitchen extension, and put in a consumer unit when I moved into my home. More recently he has carried out a number of smaller jobs including moving a socket and advising about and fitting lighting. He is always courteous and very helpful. This firm is very trustworthy and the work is tidily completed. I have no hesitation in recommending them as genuinely no job is too big or too small."

"We have used Lilliput Electrical for the past five years. They have installed numerous items for us in that time, including going out of their way to source out of stock items. They are great to work with and we find them to be reliable and very professional. They are who we shall call for our future electrical needs."

Bournemouth EV Charger FAQs
A standard EV charger install in Bournemouth (driveway property, single-phase, charger supplied by us) starts from £750 fully fitted — that includes the charger unit, dedicated 32 A circuit from the consumer unit, Type-A or Type-F RCD as required for EV charging, OZEV grant paperwork, NICEIC certification, and smart-tariff app setup. Bournemouth-specific premiums apply for: terraced houses needing cable management down a side passage (+£150), pavement gulley solutions for properties with no off-street parking (+£200, requires BCP permit), shared-supply Westbourne / BH4 flat conversions (+£350), and coastal Southbourne / Westbourne saltwater-rated installs (+£100). Tesla Wall Connector adds £150 over the standard chargers. We give a fixed quote after a free 15-minute on-site survey.
Almost always, yes. We've installed dozens of EV chargers at terraced Bournemouth properties without driveways using one of three patterns: (1) wall-mounted charger with tidy cable management running down a side passage to designated parking — most common in BH9 / BH10 1930s semis with side passages; (2) rear-mounted charger on a garden wall accessing a rear lane — common in BH7 / BH8 Edwardian terraces around Springbourne and Charminster; (3) BCP-permitted pavement gulley with on-street cable — works on quieter residential streets where BCP grants the permit (typically £80 application fee, paid through us). Our [terraced-house EV charger guide](/blog/ev-charger-terraced-house-bournemouth/) covers each pattern with photos and BCP-specific pavement permit requirements. We assess each property individually on the survey.
Often, yes — and the typical Bournemouth pattern almost always triggers it. Most BH1-BH11 housing stock pre-dating 2018 has either: (a) no spare ways on the consumer unit (no room for the new EV circuit), (b) only Type-AC 30 mA RCDs (which don't handle the DC residual current EV chargers can produce — Type-A or Type-F is now required), or (c) a 1930s split-load board with no RCD on the new EV circuit. In all three cases the cleanest fix is to upgrade the consumer unit first. We bundle the [consumer unit upgrade (from £450)](/services/consumer-unit-upgrade/bournemouth/) with the EV install as a single visit — typically saves £150–£250 vs sequential jobs and means you only have one set of certificates to file.
Yes — within roughly 1km of the coast (most of BH4 / BH6 and parts of BH5) the salt-laden air accelerates corrosion on standard outdoor electrical components. We use IP65-rated charger units (all the major brands meet this), saltwater-resistant cable glands, marine-grade brackets and fixings, and stainless steel rather than galvanised connections where possible. Adds about £100 to a standard install. Without these upgrades, standard outdoor components fail in 3–5 years on coastal Bournemouth properties — we've seen plenty of replacements come back for this reason. Worth doing properly the first time.
Five chargers we install most across Bournemouth: (1) Ohme Home Pro (£850 supplied + installed) — best Octopus Intelligent integration, our default recommendation; (2) Easee One (£750 supplied + installed) — sleek Scandinavian design, dynamic load balancing, upgradeable to three-phase; (3) Myenergi Zappi (£950 supplied + installed) — the only choice if you have or plan solar PV (solar-divert mode); (4) Pod Point Solo 3 (£850 supplied + installed) — simple, reliable, no-frills; (5) Tesla Wall Connector (£900 supplied + installed) — best for Tesla owners but works with all EVs via Type 2. For the full breakdown by tariff / charger combination see our [EV charger comparison](/blog/ev-charger-comparison/).
The OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) EV chargepoint grant is currently available for: (1) flat owners and occupiers (rental and owner-occupied), (2) landlords installing chargers at residential rental properties, (3) renters of single-unit residential properties. Standard owner-occupied houses are no longer eligible (changed in 2022). The grant is up to £350 towards installation costs. For Bournemouth specifically this means: BH1 / BH2 / BH4 / BH6 flat owners and the landlords renting them are the typical eligible cohort. We handle all OZEV grant paperwork on your behalf as part of the install — no admin on your end.
A standard driveway install (Ohme / Easee / Zappi / Pod Point on an existing compliant board) takes 3-4 hours on the day. Terraced installs with side-passage cable management add 1-2 hours (typically half a day total). Pavement gulley installs are a half-day or full day depending on cable run length. Westbourne / BH4 flat conversion installs that involve shared-supply coordination with SSEN need to be booked 2-3 weeks ahead because SSEN attendance has to be scheduled. Bundled board upgrade + EV charger jobs run as a single full day — board fitted in the morning, EV charger commissioned in the afternoon.
Yes, if you have or plan to install solar PV. The Myenergi Zappi (£950 supplied + installed) is the standout choice for solar-divert: it has three modes — Fast (charges full power from grid + solar), Eco (charges from solar surplus + minimal grid top-up), and Eco+ (charges only from solar surplus, pauses when sun goes in). For a typical Bournemouth household with a 4 kWp solar system, Eco+ mode lets you put 1,500-3,000 kWh/year into the car for free during summer months. Combined with an Octopus Intelligent / Cosy Octopus tariff for winter charging (cheap-rate overnight), the typical solar + Zappi household saves £700-£1,200/year vs petrol equivalent. See our [solar + battery savings analysis](/blog/solar-battery-savings-dorset/) for real Dorset examples.
